Injuries
Bicep
Tendonitis
In
bicep tendonitis, the tendon is inflamed usually as a result of
an abnormal stress or repetitive use of the tendon. The bicep tendon
located in front of the shoulder helps bend the elbow and turn the
forearm. Signs of this condition include the slow onset of discomfort or
pain in the upper shoulder and difficulty in sleeping on the shoulder.
Pain may occur when the arm is forcefully pushed upward, raised
overhead, or moved behind the back.
Physical Therapy Treatment Plan: After careful evaluation by the
physical therapist, the first step in treating this condition is to
reduce pain and inflammation. Treatments may include:
ice/heat,
electrical
stimulation, and
ultrasound.
Gentle stretching and strengthening exercises will be added gradually.
After your initial prescription for physical therapy is completed,
your physician and physical therapist will decide if you need to
continue physical therapy or if you will be discharged to a home
exercise program.
